# The Safety Checklist

*Run this before you let Claude Code change anything. Thirty seconds now saves hours later.*

## Before you start a task
- [ ] **Backup made.** The folder I'm working in is copied somewhere safe (or under version control).
- [ ] **Right folder.** Claude is pointed at the project folder for *this* job — not my whole computer.
- [ ] **Nothing secret in view.** No passwords, bank details, or confidential files in the working folder.

## While Claude works
- [ ] **I read each proposal** before approving it — I know what it's about to do.
- [ ] **I'm in a mode that asks first** (manual/ask), not one that acts without me.
- [ ] **I approve in small batches**, so I can stop early if it's going the wrong way.

## Connecting accounts (later chapters/books)
- [ ] I only connect an account when I actually need it — and I start with low-risk ones.
- [ ] I understand what access I'm granting before I grant it.

## Cost
- [ ] I'm on a flat plan, or I've set usage alerts. (Prices/limits change — check claude.com/pricing.)

## If something goes wrong
- [ ] I stop and read the message calmly.
- [ ] I ask Claude to explain and fix it.
- [ ] If needed, I **restore from my backup** — no drama.

> The golden rule: **you are always in control.** Claude proposes; you approve. When in doubt,
> back up and slow down.
